Making Changes to Mouse Properties Settings Permanent

I'm trying to permanently increase the pointer speed on my Logitech Trackball. It currently takes more than 5 (what I would consider to be) full rotations of the trackball to move the cursor across even one of my monitors. When I use the classic Mouse Properties app and change it there it works perfectly. However, the changes aren't permanent, because if I close the app even after using the Apply button it reverts to the original setting.
