SilenceMapBot
If you saw SilenceMapBot/1.0 in your server logs, this page explains what it is doing.
What it does
It reads public help-forum threads to find questions that have gone at least a week without a reply. We group the same problem asked in different places, write a short summary in our own words, and link back to every original thread.
How it behaves
- It identifies itself honestly in every request.
- It follows your robots.txt, including
Crawl-delay, and never waits less than 3 seconds between pages. - It reads only public pages. It never logs in, posts, or opens search, profile or account pages.
- It reads only a few list pages per section and only opens threads it hasn't seen.
- If a site returns a block or rate-limit response, it stops for that run.
Opting out
Add this to your robots.txt and the bot will stop reading your site:
