DELL XPS 9530 Keyboard is skipping letters badly

My lightly used dell laptop has starting skipping letters.... up to 50% of typed is missing. The keyboard is clean. No heavy tasks run. It started happening after the recent windows updates and the expiry of the warranty (hope it's a coincidence). Can it be a malware or how do I check it otherwise? While it's been happening all the time it does have some temporary relief moments for 5-10 seconds after that it starts over. What could (typed as 'ld' us my normal typing speed) it be?
