Why am I having difficulty reformatting M.2 disk from a Dell Latitude?

Recently I was given a Dell Latitude 3500 with 8G of RAM and a M.2 SSD that ran Windows 10. I ran Linux Antix in a live-session but was surprised to find that when I attempted an installation it was unable to detect the M.2 disk. I tried a couple of other distributions with the same result. I then removed the disk and put it in an external container, thinking my regular computer might see it, but again without result. I wondered if I had somehow managed to damage it, so reinstalled it, but found that the laptop booted in Windows without difficulty. I yanked the M.2 disk and in the meantime ins
