Why am I experiencing a lag on the touchpad on a Thinkpad P15 Gen 2 with Ubuntu 26.04?

The cursor input appears to be lagging when I use the touchpad on my Lenovo Thinkpad P15 Gen 2. I am running Ubuntu 26.04 as an operating system. The specific behavior of the lag is a very slight delay in the input, but only when I have my finger off the touchpad and put it on the touchpad. That is, if I leave my finger on the touchpad and stop it, there is no delay when I start to move it again.
